In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. B, leaf 18.
Railroad tracks wind from the center and curve in the distance; a white horse in the left corner points to a large tree upon which a man in suit and hat leans; in the middle distance is a sternwheel boat docked by the levee; trees are planted along the left side of the tracks. "Print of Sacramento Cal. 1872. Berman's collection of photo, cal" -- in lower right corner.
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
"Looking North from about Front & O street. Old City Jail at the foot of I street in the distance."
