Photograph was edited for publication purposes The Hollywood Professional School, located at 5400 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, was a private school for working children in the entertainment business which ran from 1935-1984. It offered classes only in the mornings so that students could work in the afternoons. Just a few of the many notable alumni include, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Betty Grable, Andy Williams, Melanie Griffith and Val Kilmer. Photograph caption dated September 10, 1956 reads, "An alumna of Hollywood Professional School is Miss Barna McDevitt who is shown above receiving an honorary award at the school's spring commencement exercises. Principal Mary Anderssen presented the award for outstanding achievement in higher education. Dr. Frederic P. Woellner, UCLA professor of education who gave the commencement address at the ceremonies, is shown at the right. Miss McDevitt graduated with high honors from UCLA at the age of 20. She is now an assistant professor at the University of Illinois."
