Photograph caption dated July 21, 1964 reads, "Hundreds in San Fernando watched this morning as fire all but destroyed the historic Porter Hotel, which opened in 1913. San Fernando and Los Angeles firemen battled the flames for more than five hours, but were able to save only the street level. The hotel's lobby and dining room and shops in the building sustained heavy water and smoke damage." The Porter Hotel was located at 211 S. Brand Boulevard, San Fernando. Also seen in the photograph is a Thrifty Drug Store and signs for Lolly's Grill and, at left, the Goodhap Hotel.; See images #00132643 through #00132644 for all photos in this series.
