“A hospital class.” Group portrait of students, in hospital uniform, sitting in a classroom. Chogoria had applied to become a training school after the introduction of regulations on training by the Nurses and Midwives Council of Kenya. The first course began in 1951 with six girls and two boys and lasted two years, trainee nurses were identified by the green trim on their uniforms. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1947-1961 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
