It depicts a man sitting on a horse at left looking at a man standing on the branch of a tree at right. The man on the branch is pointing upwards with his right hand. Both men wear hats and have mustaches, while a second tree and flat, open land are depicted in the background. A drawing reading, "View of Main Street in Porterville, Cal. Looking North" is visible at top right. It depicts a wide dirt road lined with buildings running from the foreground to the background. The building at left reads, "Pioneer Hotel" and has a covered walkway. Four men are depicted standing in front of a utility pole at left, while at least five carriages are visible on the road.
