Photograph caption dated August 8, 1964 reads, "Twelve Valley women are among those attending the first annual state-wide convention of the Associated Women for Pepperdine College today on the college campus, 8035 S. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles. Preparing for seminars to take place at the convention are, from left, Mmes. Fleeta Hickerson and Layton E. Randolph, Van Nuys; Thomas P. Dixon, Northridge, and John Massey, also Van Nuys. Other Valley women attending are Mmes. Arthur Phillips, Howard Colley, Jack Cowan, J.M. Headrick, Thomas Jenkins, Frances Walters, Herman Gardner and V.G. Tygret. The association, with a membership of more than 2,000 is in its sixth year of work to provide scholarships for students in art, Bible, music, sports and other subjects. The group also works closely with the college in providing better conditions for students."
