Description
Image of George Washington entering New York, New York, on November 25, 1783 (British forces evacuated New York City that day following the American Revolutionary War); Washington and his soldiers enter the city on horseback with crowds of people smiling and greeting them on the street as they pass, including men, women, young children, Native American Indians, African Americans, and even a dog; people lean out of windows and balconies above street level to wave hats and flags at the soldiers as they march by.
"Chromo Lith. by T. Sinclair Phila."--text, bottom right margin. "From an Original Drawing by Alphonse Bigot. Published by George T. Perry."--text, bottom left margin. "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1860 in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by George T. Perry. And is Respectfully Dedicated to the Citizens of the United States."--text, bottom center margin. "Scene_ Junction 3d. Ave. and the Bowery."--text, bottom center margin.
