Description
Pictured in 1874, and viewed from the south, is the Central Pacific Railroad’s Sacramento roundhouse, located at the Central Pacific Shops. The structure was built and put into service in 1868 by Central Pacific. The 29-stall building was, however, torn down in the late 1950s to make room for more buildings. The original turntable was in use until the late 1990s. In the foreground is locomotive number 167. To the far right of the photograph is a corner of the locomotive machine shop.
