Description
Dynamite charges were set off to signal the start of construction on the Auburn Dam diversion tunnel. Dignataries joining together in pushing the plunger were, from left, James R. Smith, assistant secretary of the interior for water and power; Rep. Harold T. Johnson of the 2nd, Mountain-Valley District; and Ellis Armstrong, U.S. Commissioner of Reclamation.
