Description
From a scrapbook compiled by Dean A. Lewis. According to typed note on The American Radio Relay League Member's Correspondence letterhead accompanying this photo: "Station 1ZL / Northampton, Massachusetts / 1913-1917. Glenn Sabin (W1ZS) at the key. Glenn had the large pictures taken in 1915 or 1916 while I was away at college. The phones Glenn is wearing are Brandes Superior's. We are using them today at K6KI. The Murdock key at th eright was equipped with large silver dime contacts. This also has been preserved and is in the present K6KI shack. The Kermel ammeter and voltmeter on the switchboard were also kept and have been mounted on a marble board at K6KI. The hot wire ammeter went the way of all flesh. A picture of the antenna thru wall insulator is shown on later pages. It was kept for a long time but finally lost. The table was made of maple boards which we later found to be quarter sawed and very beautifully figured. After my father's farm, where the station was located, was sold in 1926 the station house was used by the new owners as a milk house and for home canning. In 1959 I found the maple top still there. It was replaced for the owner and it is now the top of the operating desk at K6KI."
