Photograph caption dated August 16, 1962 reads "The Dodgers may be slumping and the Angels may still be six games behind the league-leading Yankees, but all of this faded into insignificance yesterday as the Western Boys Baseball Association opened its World Series play. The teams arrived in Northridge from as far away as Vancouver, B.C., Blackfoot, Idaho, and Salt Lake City, Utah. And as the pictures above show, the spirit was typical 'World Series.' At left, Tom Borresen (pictured), catcher for Blackfoot, and the crowd shout their opinions of a close play at third base as Fairmount's [sic] [Utah] John Matson slides in safe under the tag of Blackfoot's Steve Ciconni. But even excitement of game couldn't keep youngster on right from repeated trips to water fountain to seek relief from 100-degree plus Northridge temperature."
