Description
Collection of facts and quotes from different American groups and leaders concerning Japanese Americans. Quotes range from justifying the Japanese incarceration to upholding civil rights and supporting the recession process. Most quotes support the Japanese American community and call for upholding civil rights and not condoning discrimination. Parties quoted include: President Franklin Roosevelt, Disabled American Veterans, the California American Legion, the Attorney General of California, California's Governor, the American Federation of Labor. Bob Hope, and a Nisei. Facts printed highlight loyalty of Japanese Americans, primarily Nisei, and illustrate demographics, labor, and army service. The War Relocation Authority (WRA), together with the Wartime Civil Control Administration (WCCA), the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) and the Office of the Commanding General (OFG) of the Western Defense Command (WDC) operated together to segregate and house some 110,000 men women and children from 1942 to 1945. The collection contains documents and photographs relating to the establishment and administrative workings of the (WDC), the (WRA) and the (WCCA) for the year 1942.
