Description
Full-length portrait of a man and woman. The woman is standing to the man's left and is wearing a medium-dark colored dress; the skirt of the dress is narrow at the top and wider at the bottom, and trimmed with a self-fabric ruche on the hem. Her bodice is trimmed to look like a false vest, with a dark satin piece inserted across the front and loosely pleated across the bust. The false vest is edged with a double row of a lighter waved cord, which also is run around the base of the neck, the waistline, and the hem of the sleeves. The sleeves are puffed just at the top of the shoulder and are closely fitted to the wrists, which are also trimmed with a self-fabric pleated ruffle. The woman is wearing a small corsage of flowers pinned below her right shoulder, as well as a white handkerchief tucked into her waistband on her right hip and a chatelaine chain with clasp is also hanging down over her abdomen over her right hip. She has a flat metal band on the middle finger of her left hand, which is resting on the armrest of the man's chair. The Man is dressed in a dark three-piece suit with a single-breasted coat, and is wearing a dark four-in-hand tie over his high standing collar. He has a spray of flowers in the buttonhole of his left lapel, and a watch chain, fob, and small watch is visible on his vest between the open edges of his coat. He is seated on a light wicker chair partially covered with a dark paisley shawl, with his right elbow resting on the armrest near the woman's hand, and his left hand on his left knee. They are posed in front of a studio backdrop with a column faintly visible behind the woman's right shoulder, and a light-colored fur rug underfoot. Studio name printed on the front of the mat at the lower edge: "A.G. Denninger, Letitia Bldg., 68 South 1st St., SAN JOSE, CAL."
