Description
This 2006 postcard promotes Sacramento's Bear Flag Museum, a virtual collection located at http://www.bearflagmuseum.org. It was founded in 2006 by local attorney Bill Trinkle. The famous bear symbol first flew on a muslin flag over Sonoma in 1846, but was referred to, by Californios, as "El Puerco," because of its resemblance to a pig. The red stripe at the base of the flag was meant to symbolize the willingness of Bear Flag Revolt participants to shed blood for the wresting of California from Mexico.
