Description
Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989
Dan Gurney began drag racing as a teen-ager in Riverside. He turned into a Renaissance driver: in 1967, he became the first driver to win driving Grand Prix, Indy cars, stock cars, and sports cars. And, after winning the 24 hours of LeMans with teammate A.J. Foyt, Gurney inaugurated the tradition of spraying champagne into the crowd from the winner's podium. Photo dated: May 23, 1968.
