One animal whose closing years are happy because of kindness is, Old Blackie, 36 years old and last of the city's fire horses. Old Blackie is shown with James Brisbane, left, State Humane officer; and Andrew Macrery, of the City Humane Department. Photo taken at Griffith Park, where Old Blackie is pensioned. Photo dated: April 21, 1939.
