Bust-length portrait of Brandenstein. Text written under photo: "M.J. Brandenstein 'Coffee-M.J.B. Why.' " The M.J.B.'Why'" billboards are some of the most commonly seen in photos of turn-of-the-century San Francisco, along with those for General Arthur Cigars. Mr. Brandenstein, namesake of the company, is seen here looking slightly to the right. Also have negative no. (4x5 in.): 29,564.
