Title supplied by cataloger.; Photograph was edited for publication purposes. August Palombo, a bootlegger, was shot to death in his automobile on Hillcrest Avenue. Photograph caption dated July 26, 1928 reads, "Photo shows six asserted 'racketeers' lined up in the Los Angeles police 'shadowbox' today while detectives look them over in effort to link them with six 'gang' murders. The men stand behind a thin screen in a stage-like box. It is illuminated so the suspects can be clearly seen by detectives, but cannot see the detectives inspecting them from the darkness. Left to right, Detective Lieutenant 'Lefty' James, John Testini, Dominic de Soto [sic] (aka Domenico Di Ciolla), alleged rival of slain August Palombo; Vito Cisareo, Domenich Shiovone, Salvadore Verna, Louis Tasselli."; See photograph 00072019 for a close-up of Domenico Di Ciolla.
