Description
Photograph of the ruins of the Gymnasium at Stanford University after the 1906 earthquake, 1906. The center portion of the large, stone building has been reduced to a pile of debris that spills into the yard in front. What appears to be a spherical, metal frame sits with bent beams on top of the pile. On either side, the walls of the building still stand, but the upper levels have crumbled exposing where the roofs are caving into the inside. Many of the windows are broken and the edges of the walls have crumbled to the front yard below. Several people can be seen standing in front of the building, behind the barrels that line the end of the road in the foreground.
