Covers: downtown Sacramento to American River; North Sacramento from river north. "9-20-49" -- label. "A-40-1" -- handwritten on envelope.
Visible: American River; East Sacramento; 16th Street Bridge; open space - native oak trees (oak savanna).
Born in Medford, Oregon in 1922. After serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II, settled in Sacramento, starting a commercial photography business stringing for various newspapers. Business, Cartwright Aerial Surveys, eventually specialized in aerial photography and mapping. Died in Sacramento in 2003.
Cartwright Aerial Surveys created aerial photographs to be used in producing topographic maps, plans, and profiles used in civil engineering; subdivision layouts and general purpose maps; products used for marketing studies and court documents. Photographs document growth and development of major urban areas of Northern California.
