Photograph article dated January 8, 1959 partially reads, "Striving for a winning season in their first year of varsity play, Valley State College's cagers clash with the Westmont Warriors from Santa Barbara at 8 p.m. tonight in the San Fernando High School gym. Coach paul Thomas' Matadors were trounced by the same quintet early in the season, but have shown steady improvement after a shaky start." Photograph caption reads, "Paul Thomas - State coach."
