Thought for the day by Charles Handy on how the prodigal son or daughter should show gratitude to his or her family and connect with them. Handy begins the thought discussing his spending Christmas with his wife's side of the family, and how they were expecting the arrival of a "prodigal son" for dinner. He then reflects on the story of the prodigal son and states that his sympathies have always remained with the other son, who decided to stay with his family and support the family business. Handy moves on to recommend that any "prodigal sons or daughters" reading his thought get into contact with their relatives, while also suggesting that those who have family and other loved ones present view them with fresh eyes and consider expressing more appreciation, if they have been taken for granted.
