Photograph caption dated November 2, 1938 reads, "Fighting for her art and her right to protect it, Sally Rand denied from the witness stand that she bit and scratched Hazel Drain and C. R. Stanford during a row in a theater aisle when she tried to destroy films the youth had taken of her fan dance. Denying that she bit Miss Drain, she showed jurors how she makes up. She told them that she uses a grease paint for her lips that is much heavier than the lipstick shown on the girl's sweater."
