Photograph of an interior view of Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton, showing the eye-piece end of the 36-inch refractor, ca.1900. Seven small wheels attached to spoked rods around the end of the telescope adjust various lens distances. A small hatch in the side of the telescope provides access. The barrel of the telescope consists of multiple rings rivited together. The inside of the dome of the observatory is visible in the background above the wood walls below. A rail runs around the periphery of the curved walls. Part of the dome rotating mechanism is visible at the juncture between the dome and walls. Part of a platform is visible in the foreground at bottom.
