Description
"The Homestead," which was the name of the hunting lodge built in 1866 by Samuel Throckmorton. The Homestead was also known as Throckmorton Rancho. The site is today bounded by Linden Lane and Montford and Ethel Avenues. The superintendent of the grounds, Jacob Gardner, and his family, pictured on the porch, lived in half of the ranch, and Throckmorton or guests were weekend visitors at the other half. From left to right: Annie Roberts Gardner with Lillian Margaret Gardner Roseveare on her lap, Leslie Jacob Gardner on rocking horse, Cora Elizabeth Gardner Burt standing, Jacob Gardner, and Georgina Gardner Burt.
