Photograph was edited for publication purposes Originally known as the Hebrew Sheltering Home for the Aged, the Jewish Home for the Aging was founded in Boyle Heights in 1912. About four years later, the Home's first permanent facility was built on Boyle Avenue, where it existed for decades. In 1967, acreage in Reseda was purchased and a facility was built on Victory Boulevard. A merger in 1979 with the Menorah Village created a second campus on Tampa Avenue in Reseda. Photograph caption dated September 26, 1961 reads, "Officials line up for the dedication ceremonies of five new buildings, part of a $1 million expansion program, Sunday at California Home for the Aged, 19260 Sherman Way, Reseda. They are, from left, Samuel Willen, chairman of the building committee; Burnett Raskin, 83, a resident; Hyman Getsoff, vice president of the home, and Max Persky, treasurer. New facilities will raise the home's capacity from 75 to 175 needy aged."
