Description
1989-1172. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. B, leaf 32. On the right side is a row of two buildings leading to a large building at the end of the street which runs perpendicular; this large building is the "WAREHOUSE F.F.SMITH & CO." as identified by the sign; on the right is a one-story brick building with a doorway on the left and two windows on the right; the second brick building has five brick arches facing the street; a man is standing inside one of the arches; a model T Ford is seen on the left of the photograph driving into the background; between the two brick buildings on the right is an area fenced off with posters and a sign put up by "Wright & Kimbrough". Also have negative: no. #28,718 (4 x 5 in.) Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Corner of the alley, Looking towards the Southwest corner of 5th & I street about 1921.... Present site of "The River Stage Terminal" which was erected about 1928....This building was formally used as a Chinese Mission."
