Description
Black and white photograph printed onto a postcard showing a "yam race" at a Christmas sports day held at the leper colony run by the Primitive Methodist Missionary Society in Uzuakoli, Nigeria. Four female contestants stand on a starting line next to the hospital building with yams balanced upon their heads. Barrels from the previous race can be seen in the background. This photograph was pasted into one of a series of exercise book albums created by Emily Godfrey, Matron of the Ama Achara Methodist Hospital, also run by the Primitive Methodist Missionary Society.
