Gregory "Pappy" Boyington (December 4, 1912 - January 11, 1988) was a United States Marine Corps officer and flying ace during World War II. For his heroic actions, he was awarded both the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. Boyington and Frances Baker were married from 1947 to 1958, at which time he met Dee Tatum, whom he later married. "Pappy" died of cancer and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Photograph caption dated July 6, 1964 reads, "Col. Gregory (Pappy) Boyington and his actress wife, the former Dee Tatum, join in a reunion toast after their reconciliation. They called off a divorce suite scheduled tomorrow." Prior to the reconciliation, Boyington had claimed that his wife was not legally divorced from her previous husband.
