Photograph caption dated December 29, 1948 reads, "Refugees From The Red Hordes In War-Torn China - Evacuated from Tsintao, China, where advancing hordes of Chinese Communist troops threatened, these American and Canadian wives and their children were among group who arrived in Los Angeles Naval Base today aboard the attack-transport U.S.S. Cavalier. Others are (left to right) Mrs. Mary E. Ober of Hollywood; Mrs. Gwendolyn McLeod of South Lethbridge, Canada; Mrs. Mary Lemon, Terminal, Texas; Mrs. Wilma McGurn, of Victorville, Cal.; Mrs. LaFaunn Williams, boulder, Colo., and Mrs. Natalie Johnson of Lake City, S. C. Youngest child is Mrs. McLeod's daughter, Gwenyth, 11 months old."
