Description
Photograph of a Hopi Indian man weaving a blanket or dress at Oraibi, Arizona, ca.1898. A woman, sitting on some woven blankets, is weaving a blanket (or rug?) using the assistance of a loom, while several men stand around watching (one man is sitting). The man on the right, leaning against the adobe wall, appears to be young. An elderly man sits next to the woman weaving. Another elderly man, with a long beard, is standing near the doorway. Cornstalks and a tribal mask (?) hang from the wall (left). The roof is constructed of thin bark-stripped logs. Exposed rough-hewn rafters are visible above.
