Description
Photograph of an Organized Labor Float for Los Angeles' La Fiesta Parade, ca.1909. Four men dressed in helmets, tunics and sandals, in the manner of what appears to the Greek god Mercury, attend the horse-drawn float. The cart which they pull appears to have a large bush on it, as well as a nautical anchor made from flowers. The side reads "Organized Labor" before dropping down to the cloth skirt that hides the wheels. A fifth man sits at the helm of the float, manning the reigns. He wears a more lavish helmet than his fellow laborers and checked pants. A sign and an American flag are partially visible in the left background, as a clapboard-sided house is to the right, behind a line of trees. Streetcar rails can be seen in the foreground of the unpaved street.
