Description
Introduction. In class we observed that no reaction goes to completion and have discussed qualitatively the consequences of this insight. It is also possible to deal quantitatively with chemical equilibria. The chemist's approach should start with the chemistry of the reaction and fully utilize chemical intuition before resorting to algebraic techniques. Science always precedes mathematics in the study of physical phenomena! Chemical intuition is necessary to make intelligent approximations and to identify the best algorithm for the problem at hand. Most chemical problems do not have an exact, closed-form solution and the direct application of mathematics to a problem can lead to an impasse.
