Brought to Santa Catalina for the filming of the motion picture "The Vanishing American" in December 1924, buffalo continue to thrive on the island. The animals are overseen and managed by the Santa Catalina Island Conservancy, whose objective involves maintaining a healthy herd in balance with Catalina's natural environment and resources.
