Description
These residents of Heinlenville Chinatown are participating in a celebratory procession, carrying flags. This image was obtained from Eugene L. Chinn for use in Connie Young Yu's book, "Chinatown, San Jose, USA," with the following caption: A procession outside the gates of Heinlenville on 6th Street heading north. The American flag leads the way, followed by a huge banner bearing the Chinese words, "Ng Shing Gung," Temple of Five Gods. Most likely this is the morning of the "Da Jui," the festival of hungry ghosts. Signs carried by two boys in the rear ask for silence.
