Description
Here's how the corner of Broadway and Land Park Drive looked in early 1938. By November of that same year, the space would be home to the $200,000 Tower Theater. Visible billboards implore the use of Sacramento for conventions and advertise business space in the Tower Theater building. To the left of the photograph is the grandstand of Moreing Field, home of the Sacramento Solons baseball team. Just 15 years earlier, Broadway was known as Y Street and a levee ran east-west along the south side of the street. It was also replete with grain and grazing fields. The tracts between the pictured corner and the baseball field were owned by Christian Marty, Henry Hunziker and Lucas Kreuzberger.
