Description
Photograph article dated August 27, 1963 partially reads, "Automation? They're doing something to prepare for this brave new world in the Valley right now. A new automation center to train office workers in the intricacies of the machine life has been established by the Sawyer School of Business. Location is 11244 Chandler St., North Hollywood. Charles Sheff, a director and vice president of the Sawyer Chain, is a man who can feel the pulse of the electronic age. 'The modern office secretary today,' he says, 'needs to know more than typing, shorthand and simple bookkeeping. 'To meet the changes taking place, she must have knowledge of the IBM 402 and 514 billing systems, accounting and inventory control machines, key punch machines, and even the desk top calculating machines. Sawyer has spent over $100,000 on equipment to impart this knowledge to the school's students. And it won't go unused." Pictured are Ed Karasiewicz, left, and Mike Berlin.
