The caption refers to a brush fire in the Hollywood Hills that started on May 13, 1961 and charred over 1,200 acres, destroying 24 homes and damaging 30 others. The fire was centered on Beachwood Canyon Drive, near the Griffith Park area. Photograph caption dated May 15, 1961 reads, "Aerial photograph, with Burbank visible in upper right, shows hillside damage caused by disaster." The Griffith Observatory can be seen on the left.
