Landscape view showing steep mountains with a village built upon a central ridge. The mountain side is segmented into a series of terraces. Simla was developed as a summer resort by the British, to escape from the heat of the plains, and it was the summer capital for British India 1865-1939. ❧ This is one of a series of photographs contained in an album showing popular tourist attractions in India, the album was owned by an unknown Church of Scotland missionary who had probably taken the tour whilst working out in the region. Unfortunately there is very little information with the photographs as to there ownership.
