Description
A descriptive handbook on the cities and towns the Pocahontas and the Powhatan Arrow routes passed through. Only cities of 100 or more inhabitants have been listed. The pamphlet is based on the 1950 national census and the Rand-McNally reference booklet. The importance of this piece is how it simplified the spaces and towns the routes passed through. This pamphlet encourages a shortened sense of traveled space as well as the simplicity of small town Americana. As an effective piece of railroad propaganda, the pamphlet depicts a romanticized and nostalgic view on railroad travel. In excellent condition. Illustrations in black and white. Publication partially scanned.
