Description
"Nearer view of Stone Gateway." Buildings depicted include school, church, the missionary's house and the school swimming bath. Near these buildings is the hospital and , further away, the leprosy home and the orphanage.
One of a set of lantern slides entitled "Stone Gateway". Stone Gateway (Shimenkan) in Guizhou Province was the centre of Methodist missionary work to the Miao people of south west China. The work was begun by Samuel Pollard (1864-1915) ca.1904 when in response to increasing numbers of Miao enquirers he built the centre at Shimenkan.
