Description
Photograph shows Joleen Callahan in center of photograph with Mae Dailey on the left, at a table waiting with sign-in sheets for the y-Walk. There are Y-Walk stickers on their clothes and a red and white y-Walk balloon bouquet behind them. The table has signs instructing walkers to sign in under their team captain's name and a span of alphabetical letters to direct people where to sign in. "Executive Director Faith Rein (the top job had been renamed again) and President Sarah Janigian launched two annual events that heaped public attention on the association: the Y-Walk downtown in 1984, in which volunteers enlisted sponsors to raise money for YWCA programs; and TWIN, Tribute to Women and Industry, in 1985." From Fran Smith, "Breaking Ground: The Daring Women of the YWCA in the Santa Clara Valley, 1905-2005, " (2005), p.87. "Volunteer Joleen Callahan's hiking group, formed at Cambrian in the mid- 1970s, was still tramping the trails in 2005, the last vestige of adult programming at YWCA-West Valley, as the Cambrian Certer would be renamed. Callahan herself still served on the YW board of directors."
