Lodgepole thinning. This picture shows a portion of an acre from which 1022 lagging poles have just been removed. There are 484 of the best trees left on the acre with their crowns free. There are also 538 supressed trees left which will not interfere with the growth of the dominant trees. The stand is sixty years old. The dominant trees left vary from 4-6 inches in diameter and from 35-45 feet in height
