Notation written on the verso, dated June 4, 1960 reads, ""Cheryl Crane."" 16-year-old Cheryl Crane is pictured in the backseat of an automobile while being transferred from the Beverly Hills Police Station to Juvenile Hall. Crane, the daughter of film actress Lana Turner, and classmates Martha Johnson and Sheila Copeland had left the El Retiro School for Girls in San Fernando without permission and were found seven and a half hours later in a Beverly Hills park by police. Supervision of Crane had fallen under the Juvenile Court following the stabbing death of Turner's boyfriend, Johnny Stampanato, which Crane had confessed to. The Court had ordered Crane to attend and reside at El Retiro which was a State-run school.
