Description

Born in Livingston County, New York, in 1829. Arrived in California in 1849, worked briefly in merchandising and spent time in the mines. Went to work for the express companies - Sam. W. Langton's Express, Adams & Co., Pacific Express Co., Wells, Fargo & Co. Eventually settled in Sacramento as Assistant Superintendent for Wells Fargo. Served in several positions - Treasurer in Shasta County, School Director in Sacramento and President of the Board of Education, was member of Board of Directors for the State Agricultural, Mining and Mechanics Art College. Died in 1902.
