Description
Photograph of a view of a Salvation Army camp for victims of the Long Beach earthquake, 1933 (1938?). Five men stand at the left side a wooden table at the left of the image, waiting to receive food. The man at rear extends a handled cup to two women, who are dressed in aprons and bonnets, who stand on the right side of the table. A wooden crate, a glass jar reading "cookies", handled cups, and other vessels sit on the table, while a crate of milk bottles, another wooden crate, and a basket sit below it. At the right of the image, another woman pours liquid from a pot into another vessel which sits on a makeshift pedestal made from stacks of bricks and a sheet of metal. A cloud of smoke or steam hangs above the vessel on the stove. Other vessels and a basket sit in the grass around the stove. In the background sits a clapboard house with a wooden pergola and paned windows on the near side and a bay window visible on the left.
