Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Photograph article dated September 2, 1961 partially reads, "'If a nuclear attack hit the Valley in the next half hour what would you do?' This question was posed to several people in the past few weeks by a 27-year-old Encino resident. The answers he received varied widely. Some talked about hiding in a cellar, some mumbled something about storing water, others were silent. Most people, John Caroline found, had no idea of what to do. Operating under a philosophy that most people want to stay alive, Caroline feels he has a plan that may help them survive an attack. 'There is nothing mysterious about survival,' he said as he sat in his house at 17455 Hatteras St. 'The best way to survive is through intelligent planning.'"
