Description
Chris Fulster’s Cottage Cheese business at 2520 Y St. is captured in this circa 1937 photograph. Children dressed in summer clothing stand at either side of the store entrance and roses line a walkway that leads to the doorway. A native of Germany, Fulster came to the United States in 1923, working on a Washington dairy farm before attending the University of California, Davis. He started the creamery in 1933, keeping it in operation until 1966, when he sold it to Crystal Creamery. Fulster was a prominent member of the Sacramento Turnverein and was a key member of the organization’s first soccer team.
