“HMS Herald.” View showing the full length of the paddle steamer HMS Herald with the mounted guns on both decks and a stern wheel. The Herald and Mosquito patrolled the waters of the Lower Shire in the last decade of the nineteenth century. Port Herald was named after the gunboat as the entrance to Nyasaland [Malawi] along the river. ❧ Album containing photographs recording a voyage up the Shire River and scenes from the Livingstonia mission.
