Description
This full color program advertises the 1956 music festival produced by the Sacramento City Unified School District, which took place at the Memorial Auditorium. From Thursday, May 17, 1956 – Friday May 18, 1956, Sacramentans enjoyed a variety of musical venues performed by many local students.
Participating schools included both the Junior and Senior High School Bands, Chorus, Choirs, and Orchestras from Hollywood Park, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Peter Lassen, Stanford, Sutter, CK McClatchy, Sacramento Senior High School, and the Sacramento Junior College. Students from these schools also acted as ushers and guards throughout the festival.
Featured musical performances include “Call to Colors” “The Star Spangled Banner” “Song of Hope” “Walk Together Children” and “Selections from Deep River Suite” among other works.
The second portion of the event from Friday, May 18, 1956 was recorded and broadcast on Tuesday, May 22nd, 1956 by the National Broadcasting Company.
